I read the article about Edward Townsend Stutesbury and Whitemarsh Hall. It is a dissapointing world when a piece of art, like Whitemarsh, is demolished. However, because Mr. Stutesbury did not care to make the necessary provisions required for the future upkeep of the mansion , maybe he is trying to teach the new generation of wealth a lesson. Though the grand Gilded Age will never be relived, all is not lost if today's wealthy benefactors see the grace, beauty, and history in things of the past,like Lynnewood Hall
Lynnewood originally had 36 acres of gardens designed by the French landscape architect Jacques Greber, son of well known French sculptor Henri-Leon Greber. The gardens were the finest example of French classical landscape art in the U.S. Henry-Leon designed and supervised the casting of the fountain.
